Cannot Access OLMAPI32.dll Error
MS Outlook users have reported that after upgrading from Window Vista to Windows 7 Outlook is no longer able to function correctly. Sometimes it opens and crashes, other times it refuses to open. In most cases, users are presented with the error message:
OLMAPI32.dll is not compatible with Outlook
This error occurs because the OLMAPI32.dll file was not replaced when the operating system was upgraded. The DLL file is installed by Outlook but is configured to work with the operating system. This means that it is attempting to bridge communication between Outlook and Vista even though the operating system is now Windows 7.
To resolve this issue the OLMAPI32.dll file must be replaced. Begin by removing the old OLMAPI32.dll file from:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office XX
Now go to Add or Remove Programs and repair the Microsoft Office Suite. This will install a version of OLMAPI32.dll that works with Windows 7 and Outlook. In many cases, the PST file also becomes damaged and must be repaired. This can be done by running Scanpst.exe in:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\1033
If Outlook is still having problems opening or accessing the user’s data, a more robust Outlook PST Repair program from a third party vendor should be used.
