Cannot Access Outlook.pst
Many people and businesses rely on MS Outlook to provide their e-mail and calendaring needs on a daily basis. When Outlook is unable to meet these needs, users can become very frustrated. Often the inability to view e-mails, update the inbox or open events stored in the calendar will also produce an error message. Some of the most common error messages are:
Access to outlook.pst is denied
Outlook.pst cannot be started
Outlook cannot open the outlook.pst file
All these errors are caused by damaged or corrupt Outlook PST file. The PST file is where Outlook stores all of the user’s personal information and e-mails. Running the Scanpst.exe utility will frequently resolve these errors. The utility can be found at:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\1033
Start the utility by double clicking on Scanpst.exe. Browse to the PST file and click the Scan button. The utility will automatically repair any damaged data it finds. If Outlook still has difficulty accessing the PST file, use a third party Outlook PST Repair application to fix the file and restore full access to Outlook.
