Many businesses and individuals rely on MS Outlook to keep their daily schedule organized and manage their e-mail activity. Outlook is able to work with a variety of e-mail service provides. Each provider has instructions about how to properly configure Outlook to work with their e-mail servers. These instructions are available on the e-mail provider’s website. This configuration information along with the user’s personal data and stored e-mails are kept in the Outlook PST file.

The Inbox Repair Tool can address several kinds of data corruption including:

  • Network induced data damage
  • Damage caused during file compression
  • File header damage
  • Corrupted profiles
  • Custom folder damage
  • Fragmentation damage
  • Partially deleted data like e-mails, calendar events and to do list entries

The Inbox Repair Tool can work with PST files formatted according to ANSI and Unicode standards.  Because the Inbox Repair Tool was built and released with versions prior to Outlook 2003, it only works with PST files smaller than 2GB.  The utility has not been updated to accommodate the larger PST files that later versions of Outlook are able to create and successfully maintain.

Users who need to repair PST files larger than 2GB should utilize third party Outlook PST Repair software.  These applications are updated regularly and can resolve data issues in PST files up to 50GB.
