Outlook E-mail Operations Interrupted
MS Outlook is one of the most popular e-mail clients in use today. Many businesses and individuals use Outlook to manage all of their e-mail needs. When Outlook fails to send an e-mail, users quickly become concerned. This is especially true when Outlook displays an error message stating:
SMTP e-mail server has experienced an error: 0x800ccc6f
SMTP is the protocol configuration that allows Outlook to communicate with the e-mail service provider’s server that sends e-mail messages. If the e-mail being sent includes a large attachment, the failure may be due to an intermittent Internet connection. Verify the computer has access to the Internet and attempt to send the message again.
In some cases the SMTP configuration may not be set up correctly. Verify Outlook is configured according to the instructions provide by the e-mail service provider. Sometime the SMTP configuration becomes corrupted. This configuration information is stored in the Outlook PST file. Run the Scanpst.exe utility located in:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\1033
The utility will scan the PST file and repair any damage or corruption it finds. In most cases this will restore Outlook’s ability to send e-mails. In some cases, the damage will need to be repaired by a more robust Outlook PST Repair tool provided by a third party vendor.
